This summer school is aimed at Ph.D students and junior faculty. The level will be from introductory (e.g. introduction to the topic) onwards and is meant to allow people to learn about and get active in cutting-edge research topics in applied probability.

July 21: One full day on Optimization with applications in telecommunications/networking (sponsored by Columbia's Computational Optimization Research Center (CORC) http://corc.ieor.columbia.edu/. (main lecturers: Daniel Bienstock, Columbia U.; Alan J. King, IBM Research). Start time is 10:00am.

July 22: One full day on Financial Engineering/Mathematical and Computational Finance (main lecturers: Hui Wang, Brown U.; Steve Kou, Columbia U.)

July 23: One full day on Stochastic Networks (main lecturer: Sean Meyn, U. Illinois, Urbana Champaign)

July 24: One full day on  Long-range dependence, and heavy-tailed distributions (main lecturers: Chris C. Heyde, Director of CAP, Columbia U.; Peter Glynn, Stanford U. )

Various CAP faculty/members will attend and participate.

All attending students will also spend much of Friday, July 27, at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, where they will learn about new and emerging technologies, and exciting research activities in both the science and the application of applied probability and related fields in Operations Research.  More details will be available soon.
 

APPLICANTS:

The number of accepted applicants is limited to about 35, and funds will be awarded by CAP/IBM to fully cover travel and housing for the accepted Ph.D. students, and some funding for the junior faculty.
