CAP Fellowship for Doctoral Studies

The Center for Applied Probability (CAP) of Columbia University invites applications for doctoral studies in the following areas:

  1. Mathematical and computational finance,
  2. Stochastic networks,
  3. Logistics and distribution,
  4. Population dynamics.
Several positions are available, designated as CAP Fellowships, with full tuition exemption and a stipend, funded by CAP's Group Infrastructure Grant from the National Science Foundation. (NSF requires that funding in GIG be available for support of stude nts only if they are U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents.)

CAP is a research and educational center that integrates the study of probability with a spectrum of applications in science, engineering, and industry. With its location in metropolitan New York, CAP offers unique research, education and career opportuni ties in areas as diverse as telecommunications, computing, financial services and insurance, healthcare, biomedical technology, retail and distribution, and engineering and management consulting.

Applications should be directed to one of the three schools at Columbia: Applicants must do the following:
  1. Apply to one of the three schools, Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS), Graduate School of Business (GSB), and School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), by completing that school's application form, and choose a specific department within that school to serve as host (see list of host departments below).
  2. On the application form, specify "CAP" together with the area ((i)-(iv)) of interest in question.
Several departments can serve as host in this program, depending on the school. Each school has a WEB link for admissions and in fact allows students to download an application form (and in the case of SEAS, even fill in an application online):
  1. GSAS: Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics
  2. GSB: Management Science
  3. SEAS
